Job Description and Duties

This position is eligible to telework up to two (2) days a week, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. This is subject to change based on operational need and/or future return to office orders. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Under the direction of the Principal Structural Engineer (PSE) in DSA's Headquarters Structural Codes and Standards Section, the incumbent is responsible for code, policies, procedures and code interpretations that promote innovative solutions in compliance with the California Education Code, Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations (CCR), guidelines, policies and other reference material to meet customer needs throughout the State of California. Customers include school districts, community college districts, essential services agencies, design professionals, contractors, building and product manufacturers, project and special inspectors, material testing laboratories, state agencies, public constituents, staff and department management.

This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment and once per year.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) a(n) California Structural Engineer License. You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired.

  • Knowledge of, or familiarity with, DSA Plan Review and Field/Construction Oversight processes, including Project Inspector Certification and Laboratory Evaluation and Acceptance programs.

  • Strong and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in use of cloud-based platforms and Microsoft programs, ETracker, Box, Bluebeam and other electronic plan review programs.

  • Demonstrates the ability to work and contribute effectively in a team environment or independently in a manner consistent with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrate tact and diplomacy in working with internal and external customers.
