Position Summary

Manage and direct the operations, finances, human resources and new program planning/implementation for the Bayview Department of Medicine, on behalf of Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center (JHBMC) and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (JHUSOM).

The Administrator of Medicine reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and the Medical Chairman, Department of Medicine. There is dotted line reporting to the Department of Medicine Chief Administrative Officer and the Chair of Medicine/JHH Physician-in-Chief.

The administrator is a member of the Bayview Medical Center Department of Medicine Executive Leadership Team, and will, on behalf of COO, CFO and the DOM Chairman, represent DOM/JHBMC priorities and vision. The Administrator-Medicine JHBMC is also part of the Medicine Academic Division leadership team.

Department includes the following clinical areas:

Outpatient clinics: Cardiology, GIM, Endocrine, ID, Renal, Beacham, Allergy, Comprehensive Care, Rheumatology, Pulmonary, GI, Endoscopy, Invasive and Non-Invasive Cardiology, Sleep Lab.

Department includes the following academic divisions:

Cardiology, Hospitalist service, General Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Infectious Diseases, Pulmonary and Critical Care, Medicine, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, Additions Medicine, Rheumatology, Chairman’s office, Hematology, House staff program, Nephrology, Geriatrics Medicine and Gerontology, Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

Direct management of all Cardiology invasive and non-invasive services and Endoscopy. Partner with Director of Nursing for inpatient units and with Senior Administrator of Ambulatory for outpatient clinics.

This position collaborates with JHBMC nursing and leaders on clinical operations, finance, human resources, and new program planning/implementation for Bayview Department of Medicine on behalf of Johns Hopkins Bayview and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Responsible for impacting strategic initiatives, expansions, as well as novel best practice performance improvement.

Positions includes collaborating with JHBMC nursing and leaders for the following inpatient areas: Med A, Med B, MICU, CBMU, CICU, PCU, CDU as well as Department of Medicine outpatient clinics.

The Administrator will be responsible for partnering Department of Medicine and divisional clinical as well as administrative leadership for JHBMC based clinical activity.

The Administrator must be well versed in clinical operations, human relations, IT systems, billing, compliance, and financial management. Experience in complex health care environments as well as strong leadership, negotiation, and relationship building skills. Must be capable of balancing multiple competing priorities, timelines, and varied interest in a collaborative and equitable manner.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business, finance, health administration, or other related discipline required.
  • Seven years (7) of healthcare administration and operations experience required (Quality Improvement, IT, Project Management, Finance Operations).
  • High analytical ability to solve complex business problems
  • Self-starter and able to work independently with staff/physicians at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong leadership and implementation skills, ability to manage multiple project assignments, and ability toto interact effectively with multiple stakeholders.
  • High level of customer service, interpersonal skill, written and oral communication necessary to interface with various levels of management.
  • Ability to integrate, analyze, synthesize, and summarize information to make judgments relegated to strategies to improve performance.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate individual and group decision-making. Ability to function effectively in a fluid, dynamic and rapidly changing environment highly complex medical center-wide systems and programs, resolve problems and improve financial and operating outcomes for large department.
  • Work requires the analytical skills necessary to plan for, design or enhance highly complex Medical Center-wide systems and programs, resolve problems requiring a comprehensive and state of the art awareness of the technology and literature in a professional, technical or scientific field, or develop financial and operating plans for a large department/division

Salary Range: $145,000 per year - ​​​​​​​$235,000 per year. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
